Teresa Faye Lane Freeman, age 66, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2025. Known for her generous spirit and deep compassion, Teresa lived a life rooted in love, service, and the unwavering desire to protect those who could not protect themselves-especially animals.
Born to Billy Woodard Lane and Mary Alice Price Lane, Teresa was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her beloved sister, Donna Alice Lane.
She dedicated many years of her professional life to working as a secretary at a correctional facility where she retired.
A devoted animal lover, she dedicated much of her time rescuing stray and abandoned creatures, and she was known for her proactive efforts to ensure that every animal in need had a warm meal and a safe place to call home. Her love for her cats was especially profound, and anyone who knew her understood that her compassion extended beyond the human realm – she was a guardian and advocate for all creatures.
She is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Scott Freeman; sister, Norma Jean Lane-Jackson; her nephew, Bryan Christopher Brady, along with his daughter, Addilynn “Addi” Michelle Brady; her niece, Catherine Gail Brady and her children, Jaden Brady, Kamden Antionio Keyes, and Braden Devon Keyes.
In keeping with Teresa’s own wishes and in celebration of her life, the family has chosen not to hold a public service. In lieu of flowers the family kindly asks that donations be made to a local humane society in her honor or to the Teresa Lane Freeman sports scholarship fund at PO Box 93, Stonewall, NC 28583. It is a fitting tribute to a woman who gave so much of her heart to animals and who believed in compassion above all else.
