Thelma Marie Thornton Dixon, 89, of the Goose Creek Community, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 26, 2023.
Thelma was born on August 15, 1933, in Snow Hill, NC to the late Mark and Mamie Thornton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy B. Dixon of Goose Creek and her sisters, Gertrude Smith and Laura Mae Stanworth.
The first of four children, she is survived by one brother, A. J. “Buddy” Thornton of Kinston. She is also survived by her daughters, Judy D. Jernigan, and Martha Ann Harper; her beloved son-in-law, Clem, or Clamo as everyone knows him; her four grandsons, Chris Bailey (Frances), Eric Harper (Emily), Will Harper (Amber), and Reid Harper. She was also blessed with six great-grandchildren, Sarah and Rebecca Bailey, Casey Stilley, Diana, Davis, and Tate Harper.
Her most successful and treasured roles were that of a teacher, a gardener, a childcare provider, a commercial fisherman, and a homemaker. She is a member of Amity Christian Church where she taught the Adult Sunday School Class, sang in the choir, fellowshipped with many friends and provided numerous meals to many.
Her funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 1 st at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Connor officiating. Interment will follow immediately in Cayton Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to the Palliative Care unit or any organization that supports them, at CarolinaEast Medical Center.
