Van Eric Hill, Sr., 80, of Reelsboro, passed away peacefully at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville on Saturday, January 8, 2022 after an unexpected and unfortunate event. His family was lovingly by his side as he passed.
Van was born February 14, 1941 to Eby and Clidie Hill of Vanceboro. He graduated from Farm Life High School in Vanceboro in 1959. Van attended Atlantic Christian College (now Barton College) in Wilson, NC, as well as Craven Community College in New Bern, NC to earn his Associates Degree in Business, and enjoyed a long, 32-year career with NADEP (now Fleet Readiness Center-East) at MCAS Cherry Point, NC.
Van was predeceased by both of his parents, Eby and Clidie Hill of Vanceboro, and is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 32 years, Linda Lee Hill, of their home in Reelsboro. He is also survived by his son, Van Eric Hill, Jr. (Linda) of Pamlico Beach, daughters, Jessie Hill of Reelsboro and Chris Hill Strump (Larry) of Saint Johns, Florida, and three stepsons, Rex Potter, III (Julie) of Reelsboro, Duane Potter (Kelsey) of Bridgeton, and Brian Potter (Heather) of Minnesott Beach. Also surviving Van are his cherished grandchildren, Amber Hill Fillingame (Matthew) of Vanceboro, Gregory Hill of Antarctica, Tamara Potter Arizpe (Andy) of Greenville, Lauren Potter of Vanceboro, Jordan Potter of Greenville, Kayley Ireland of New Bern, Kylie Santos of Laurinburg, Camryn Potter of Minnesott Beach, Elizabeth “Ellie” Aldridge and Harrison Aldridge, both of Reelsboro, and his great-grandchildren, Gabriel “Gabe” Fillingame and Riley Fillingame, both of Vanceboro, and Vincent “Vinny” Arizpe of Greenville.
In an effort to abide by Van’s wishes, there will be no memorial service for him, however, the family will receive friends during a visitation on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, from 5:30 to 7:00 pm at Bryant Funeral Home in Alliance, NC.
