Victorino Devera, 62, affectionately known as Victor or Vic, departed this world and entered God’s Kingdom on July 9, 2023. He was born November 21, 1960, in Manila, Philippines. Victor was a cherished member of our community who brought joy and laughter wherever he went.
Vic’s commitment to his work was unparalleled. For many years, he tirelessly worked as a custodian at West Craven High School, where he brought his warm personality and genuine care for others. Victor brightened the halls with his jovial spirit and made lasting connections with students and staff alike. His dedication to creating a safe and clean environment will be remembered by all who walked those corridors.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Vic’s true joy in life came from being a father, grandfather, and brother. He is survived by his two children, Gabby (Zachary) and Jacob Devera; his sisters, Violeta Delores Lauer (& family), Zenaida Devera Howard (& family); and brothers, Eduardo and Danilo Devera (& family). He was a doting and proud father who was a pillar of strength, a constant source of love and guidance, and a mentor to his beloved children.
As Gabriel and Jacob grew, so did Vic’s capacity for love, as he welcomed his grandchildren into the world. Although we won’t mention their names, Vic adored his two grandchildren. He relished in spending time with them, showering them with affection and wisdom only a grandfather could provide.
Vic’s infectious laughter and playful nature will be deeply missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. He had a comedic timing like no other, always ready with a pun or a witty remark that could lighten any room. His sense of humor was truly a gift.
In his spare time, Victor enjoyed exploring nature. Whether it was mowing his grass, fishing, or simply taking long walks along the beautiful Union Point Park in downtown New Bern, he found solace and tranquility outdoors. Victor’s love for the natural world was a testament to his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.
As we say our goodbyes to Vic, let us celebrate the joy he brought into our lives. May his memory serve as a reminder to always embrace the lighter side of life, to find humor in the mundane, and to spread love and laughter wherever we go.
Rest in eternal peace, Victorino Justo Devera.
