Virginia Ann Thorn, lovingly known as “Ginny” “Oma” “Great Oma” and “Mom” passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 11, 2025 in Greenville, NC.

She was born November 18, 1933 in Babylon, New York. She moved to Amityville, New York after marrying her first husband, Condé Thorn. There, they raised 3 children together and moved to eastern North Carolina in 1995.

After the death of her first husband, she met and married Jim Gray whom she accompanied on many sailing trips and traveled the world with.

She was known for her strong, enduring, and loving personality; her commitment to the church and community of Oriental; and her love for her husband, Jim.

She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth and Marcia Thorn; her son, Condé “Skip” Thorn III; her husband, James “Jim” Gray; her sister Midge Franzese and brother Tom Gifford; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was often in the kitchen making incredible meals for her family, volunteering at the hospice thrift shop in Pamlico County, playing bridge with her friends, spending time outdoors with her grandchildren and beloved dog, Holly, or sitting on the porch enjoying a glass of wine with family. She will be deeply missed by her surviving family and friends. Ginny did not wish to have a formal service.
