Walter Andrew Powell

Walter Andrew Powell, 83, of Grantsboro passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023, at home with family in attendance.

He loved his church families at Goose Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church, Reelsboro Pentecostal Holiness Church, and recent years at Faith Free Will Baptist Church.

Walter, known as “gas man”, worked 52 years with Craven Gas, Scott Gas, Jenkins Gas and Eastern Gas Co. making hundreds of friends in Craven and Pamlico Counties. Walter served his community as a charter member of Pamlico Rescue Squad. He and his previous wife, Marie, enjoyed many happy camping trips with family and friends. He and wife, Linda, enjoyed beach walks, visiting the mountains, day trips, fishing adventures, and golf cart rides at New Ditch Field.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Thelma Powell; and previous wife, Marie Green Powell.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Linda Lee Buck Powell of almost three years, his son, David Powell (Kathy); daughter, Dillan Bryan (Kenny Asby);two grandchildren, Jacob Powell (Desinee) and Hunter Bryan (Cass); two great-grandchildren, Dawson Powell and Kayden Bryan; step-children, James Franklin Green (Doris), Lonnie Green (Joanne), Jeff Green (Kelly), Sarah G. Hardison (Charles D.), Ronnie Lee (Ruthie), Wanda Hollowell, Joseph Lee (Francine); numerous step grand and great-grandchildren; his children’s mother, Linda Anderson. He also leaves his faithful pal, Bo.

His memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Faith FWB Church, 250 Sand Hill Rd., New Bern, NC with Pastor Dwayne Boyd and Pastor Cindy Midyette presiding. The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the church.
