Westin Lane Hiatt, a precious and beloved 10-year-old boy, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 3rd, 2026. Though his time on earth was far too short, the impact he made on others was more than most make in a lifetime. His legacy is one that is far beyond his years. His old soul was full of joy, faith, and compassion that touched everyone who knew him.
Born on February 26, 2015, to Jay & Kim Hiatt, Westin was the youngest of six siblings. More than a brother to Kenly, Trent, Alyssa, Jacie and Marley, he was much like their baby, as well. As the family grew, so did the circle of love around him, including siblings in love, Taylor, Emily, Shawn, Noah and Ted. At a young age, Westin also became a proud and loving uncle of Asher and Bodie, a role he embraced with his big heart and playful spirit.
From the very beginning Westin loved the Lord with a pure heart, something that was evident in his life and felt by everyone he encountered. His devotion to God was recognized at an early age when he received the Christian Testimony Award in kindergarten. His Christ-like character was reflected through his ability to extend grace to all, often knowing Bible verses before they were taught in class, and loving God in a unique way for his age. The Word intrigued him, so much that he enjoyed dressing in character to share the stories with his older siblings, often teaching them something new. His faith was shown with his trust in God in all situations.
He was a pillar of strength and a natural gentle spirit. His peers often looked to him for leadership. He was kind, respectful, and always ready to lend a helping hand. As a true country boy, Westin loved the outdoors and had a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. Some of his joys included playing outside (often barefoot), riding his dirt bike, playing baseball, hunting, and spending time with his family. Westin also treasured his friendships, a best friend to many, holding each one close to his heart. Not only did friends become his family, the bond spread to those who surrounded them all. He showed love freely and had a gentle soul that reflected his strong faith. A faith cultivated by those who poured endlessly into him; teachers, coaches, church leaders, and parents of those he was closest to. He had a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that will forever echo in the hearts of those who loved him.
Westin is preceded in death by his grandparents, Jimmy and Dolores Dunham; grandmother, Libby Hiatt; his aunt, Trudy; cousins, TJ, Katie and Avion; his pastor, Billy Hacker; and Sunday school teacher, Lisa Riggs.
In addition to Westin's immediate family he is also survived by his grandfather, Willie Hiatt; uncles, Stewart (Jennifer) and Matthew; aunts, Jolene (Wade) and Zoanne (Tony); uncles in love, David (Missy) and Harold (Paula); cousins, Angel (Paris), Brianna (Austin), Bryce, Kevelyn, Amanda, April, Austin, Lucas, Grover, Corayah, Masyn and Tinslee.
Both services honoring Westin's life will be held at New Life Church / New Bern Christian Academy located at 2911 Old Cherry Point Road, New Bern, NC 28560. Visitation will be held Sunday, February 15, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with the funeral service taking place Monday, February 16th at 11:00 a.m. He will then be laid to rest at the family cemetery, Whispering Pines Cemetery on Olympia Road.
While our hearts are deeply broken, we rest in the comfort of our faith, knowing that Westin is walking hand and hand with Jesus at heaven's riverside, reunited with the loved ones who have gone before him. We will carry his light in our hearts forever and hold tightly to the promise of seeing his sweet smile again one day.
