William “Billy” Harold Cahoon, 92, of Grantsboro, was received into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on October 25, 2026, at River Point Crest Nursing Facility. A man who loved his family, took pride in his work, enjoyed life on the water, and making his own wine, Billy leaves behind a lifetime of memories and plenty of stories to be told with a smile.
Billy’s family was always at the forefront of his life. He loved them dearly and was immensely proud of each and every one of them. His family was his greatest treasure, and the love he shared with them will continue through the many generations who carry his name and his memory forward.
In his younger years, Billy enjoyed having horses, but it was the water around Dawson Creek that truly captured his heart. He spent much of his life boating and shrimping, and it was rare for him to be without a boat for very long. Whether he was out on the water or spending time with those he loved, Billy knew how to enjoy the simple pleasures of life.
Billy was also a hardworking man who took pride in earning his living. He owned and operated his own logging company before eventually retiring from the business. Retirement, however, did not mean sitting still for Billy. He continued driving a log truck until the remarkable age of 83, proving that he was not quite ready to put his feet up just yet!
His faith was an important part of his life. Billy attended Bridgeton Pentecostal Holiness Church for as long as his health allowed and had previously been an active member of Rock of Zion Free Will Baptist Church as well as New Life Praise & Worship. He was also a proud Mason, having devoted 64 years to Rainbow Masonic Lodge No. 479. He was a 32nd-degree Master Mason and a member of the Sudan Shriners, maintaining a longstanding commitment to the brotherhood and fellowship these organizations represented.
And then there was Billy’s famous charm! He had a special fondness for flirting with the ladies and was well known for his playful ways. That twinkle in his eye and his ability to make a little conversation will surely be remembered by those who knew him best. Billy lived life in his own way, worked hard, loved deeply, and enjoyed having a little fun along the way. His family and friends will miss his presence, his personality, and the stories that made him uniquely Billy.
Billy was preceded in death by parents, Gordon and Eva Cahoon; his devoted wife, Elizabeth “Libby” Lupton Cahoon, whom he has now joined in Heaven; his brother, Robert Eugene Cahoon; his sister, Marie Cahoon Lancaster; and his great-grandson, Devin Cahoon.
Left to cherish his memory is his best friend and companion, Susie Jones Becker; his children, Marian Cahoon (Derald Potter Jr.), Bobby Cahoon (Teresa), William Cahoon (Patsy), and Lela C. Hardison (Harold); his brother, Gordon Halgram “Haggie” Cahoon (Judy); and his grandchildren, Matthew “Matt” Fornes ( Alison), Elizabeth “Liz” Brown (Blake), Angela Cahoon Woodard, Jesse Ryan Cahoon, Brittany Cahoon Stewart (Justin), Jeremy Cahoon (Peyton), Corey Cahoon (Carrie), Jordan Cahoon, Joshua Cahoon, Trey McClanahan (Kelly), and Ara Lupton McClanahan ( Jonathan). He also leaves behind 17 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will forever treasure the memories they shared with him.
A funeral service to honor Billy’s life will be held at Daniels-Sadler Funeral Home on Saturday, October 31, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Reverend Blaney Rowe officiating. Masonic rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Rainbow Masonic Lodge No. 479. Interment will follow immediately in Sand Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends and relatives one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rainbow Masonic Lodge No. 479 c/o Glenwood Tyndall, PO Box 36, Oriental, NC 28571.
