George Micheal Toler

George Micheal “Mike” Toler, 58, of Caton, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018.

He was born in Craven County, son of James Luther and the late, Edna Rowe Toler.  He grew up on the family farm in the Caton community and worked at the Weyerhaeuser Saw Mill for 40 years.

He was a simple man, not needing a lot from anyone or this world to be happy-he was just happy to be in it.  He overcame so much in his life to be the sweet, loving man he was.  He could have been such a different person but chose love, forgiveness, grace and kindness for his life.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and relaxing in his shop.

He is survived by his father, James Luther Toler of Caton; wife, Deborah “Debbie” Toler of Grantsboro; children, Lisa Lynn Buttita of Raleigh, Melanie Asby (Michael, Jr.) of Blounts Creek, Michael Toler of Caton, Maria Norris of Jacksonville, Jessica Phillips of Grantsboro, Crystal P. Simeon (Brad) of Vandemere, Brandon Phillips (Kiyomi) of Maryland and Nathan Phillips of Tennessee; brothers, Wayne (Cathy), William Shady “Pee-Wee” (Wanda), all of Caton, and James “Jimmy” Henry (Pamela), of Greenville; 18 grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Edna Rowe Toler; beloved step-mother, Mary Toler;paternal grandparents, Bill & Nan Toler; maternal grandparents, Shady & Martha Rowe; brother, Raymond McLean Toler and daughter, Sherri Norris.

His funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 25 ^th at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Nancy Wallace officiating.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 6 to 8 pm. Tuesday evening at Bryant Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers the family suggested memorial contributions be made to Pancreatic Cancer Research, Lustgarten Foundation, 415 Crossways Park Dr. Suite D, Woodbury, NY 11797.
